A trip to Aunt Mer's
Charles had a four day weekend for MLK Day so we packed up the car and took our longest road trip yet up to Durham to visit my sister. One of best friends of, gulp, 17 years also lives nearby and he and my sister are very good friends so we of course spent lots of time with "Uncle" Chase, too.
As I mentioned in a previous post, we took the opportunity to upgrade Emmy to her new convertible car seat, and it seems she was MUCH happier. This was key since it's a 4.5 hour trip, minimum! She was asleep within five minutes and took a couple of half hour naps on the way up. We stopped for lunch in Rock Hill and she charmed the folks at the Chic-Fil-A there. We finally got to our hotel around 4:30 and Mer and Chase came to see us right away. She played with them, but since she hadn't really had a great nap she wasn't in the happiest of moods. After dinner and a bath for her, Mer and Chase left to pick up some take-out and Emmy was quickly asleep. We had a lovely dinner together, nothing but serious intellectual conversation, as you can imagine. Hehe. (The photo is from Saturday afternoon at Aunt Mer's)
After dinner, Chase and Mer had a rehearsal for the choir they sing with, so I went to join them to meet some of their friends and listen to them rehearse. It was very nice, but I was quite tired and glad to get back and settle in for the night. Too bad there was no Law and Order on to watch...7 years ago that night Charles proposed, in the middle of Law and Order. The joke is that I was made he interrupted my show, which is not true! Well, at least once I knew what he was up to. (Photo: wearing my Durham outfit Sunday after lunch.)
Saturday we spent the day at Meredith's hanging out. Emmy finally took a good nap at her house and she got to meet Mer's roommates and several of her friends. After her afternoon nap we went to visit some Wofford friends, BJ and Rebekah. They are expecting a baby girl in June and we're so excited for them! Unfortunately I took no photos at their house. Then we headed back for a home cooked meal at Mer's before packing up and going back to our hotel. (Photo: Sunday after lunch and she was almost pushing up on all fours!)
I forgot my church clothes, so we opted not to go to church with Mer at Duke Chapel and instead headed to her house and then joined up with Chase for brunch. Too soon it was time to hit the road so we said good-bye and headed back to GA. Emmy blissfully slept two solid hours on the trip home, which was a record! This allowed us to really make great time, which was nice. Thanks for a fun weekend, Meredith! (Photo: Playing with Uncle Chase.)
