Emmy's 6th Birthday Party

Emmy's birthday party was held yesterday, the day after her birthday, at the zoo here in town.  We've had a week of rainy, yucky weather, so we knew rain was a possibility. We were not, however, expecting what we had: a constant, cold rain with hail and thunder and lightning. It was pretty much the worst weather we could have imagined, and as Charles said, the best thing we can say is that the tornado watch did not come too close to our area and the hail was not that big.

The good news is, Emmy had a blast. And I have a lot of things to say to the person in charge of booking the parties about what the could do next time to make this a better experience!

Emmy chose the giraffes and meerkats as her "special animals".  She got to go into the meerkats behind the scene part of the exhibit and feed them!  Then all the kids got to feed the giraffes.  They also brought in Tanya the Tortoise, a zoo animal ambassador, to meet the kids, and if the weather had not been so bad, they would have gotten to hear the 3 pm elephant keeper talk and to ride the carousel.
This was taken as we left the party. That's hail on the ground, and all of that fell during the party.

Super cute cake to match her invitation!

Matthew is in there! Charles wore him in the carrier (it has a hood) and he slept the whole time.

After we took a few photos I realized the giraffe was posing behind the kids, so I had to try to get one more with him in it!

Emmy with Emmy the giraffe! She was born in August 2013 but we just found out her name a few months ago. How cool!
