Welcome to The Pickle Jar!

These are the adventures of Charles, Beth, Emmy, and Matthew. We started this blog on May 9, 2009, one day after Emmy (or "Pickle," as she was known before her birth) was born early at 33 weeks and 2 days, weighing 2 lbs 10 oz and 14 1/2 inches long. We wanted to keep our friends and family updated on her progress, and we've continued to update it to share our adventures as a family. In 2013 our second daughter, Sara Hawley, was stillborn and this blog has served as a way to share and work through that loss. On October 7, 2014 our son, our "rainbow baby", Matthew Charles, joined our family, bringing much joy and continued healing. In July 2015 we moved to Poland, so now we are sharing our international adventures. Thanks for visiting!
